day 1 and 2: flight to los angeles

Our tour manager, Dave Tan, met us at terminal 3 group check-in row 10 at 7.25am and gave a comprehensive brief on what to expect at Narita transit to our meeting point at the Los Angeles airport.

The highlight of our 1-hour transit in Narita International Airport was the box of Tokyo Banana we bought. Each delightful yellow sponge cake with banana custurd is individually wrapped and doesn't have a long shelf life. So we only bought one box with eight bananas and none to bring home.

Daniel was randomly selected to go through a complete security screening. We were all excited to see what 'the works' would involve but in the end he passed US customs with complete ease and no additional screening steps.

The airport was about an hour away from Holiday Inn. We made a detour to the Citadel Mall since we still had a couple of hours before dinner. We didn't buy anything today but we realised Daniel is quite a serious shopper. I think he spent more time on average in each shop compared to us girls.

Cost: US$3.01 lemonade, $3 hotdog pretzel Nana Fund (our shared wallet): US$10 Tokyo Banana, $48 dinner at Dennis, $49 drinks and snacks from Target supermarket

Highlight: Catching five movies on my way there!

Hotel: Holiday Inn Beuna Park - we have three nights in this hotel. It was comfortable, clean and relatively spacious enough for the three of us. The bathroom comes with a tub.
